Delivery Day has come for an exciting new exhibition in Perth, Western Australia...

Rottnest Foundation Art Exhibition 2019

The Essence of Rottnest

This inaugural exhibition is a fundraising initiative of the Rottnest Foundation, a respected community organisation whose volunteers work to deliver projects aimed at conserving the essence of Rottnest Island or Wadjemup.

The unique natural and cultural qualities of the island have long inspired artists and this is reflected in the exhibition theme – The Essence of Rottnest – encouraging different interpretations of the island.

The exhibition is being professionally curated by Sandra Murray, a highly regarded Art Curator who currently works for the Royal Agricultural Society of WA and Bankwest. Sandra has compiled a select list of artists to be invited, as this is not an open competition. An arts professional judging panel will award a First Prize and two Highly Commended prizes.

Patron, Rottnest Foundation Inc.

I am so thrilled to be a part of this event, with a hand selected palette of over 100 artists putting forth their personal interpretation of the theme 'The Essence of Rottnest".

I love Rottnest. It holds a special place in my heart, having been visiting for short breaks since I was a child....childhood holidays, school camps, teen getaways and more recently, as a parent and boat owner, gifting my children their own memories of this special place, with long stays upon our boat in the peaceful, magical bays surrounding Rottnest.

I have painted the waters and wildlife of Rottnest many, many times.

My Entry - "Squad" Oil On Canvas

For the inaugural exhibition I choose to paint a whimsical piece to stand out from the crowd, especially as "the exhibition is a fundraising and promotional initiative of the Rottnest Foundation Inc. Funds raised from the commission of the sale of artworks will contribute to environmental, cultural and heritage conservation projects on the island."

My artwork is a compilation of just some of the unique and diverse flora and fauna found on the island of Rottnest. From the iconic, internationally renowned Quokka, to the tiniest of Rottnest Bees, each animal or flower I have painted is found on the island and is part of the conservation efforts of the Foundation. Found in my artwork are :

  • Pelican
  • Quokka
  • Osprey
  • Pied Oystercatcher
  • Fairy Tern
  • Rock Parrot
  • Red Capped Robin
  • Sacred Kingfisher
  • Rainbow Bee eater
  • Western Whistler
  • Peacock
  • Australian Shelduck
  • Rottnest Island Pine
  • Samphire
  • Rottnest Island Daisy
  • Rottnest Island tea tree
  • Prickle Lily
  • Summer scented wattle
  • Bee
  • Sea Star
