Runner UP Prize Winner Maritime Art Award 2022- Painted specifically to the theme "The Relationship of Humanity and the Sea'. This is a painting about colonial life and specifically convict women, 'punished for crimes of poverty, exiled to life across the ocean, the convict women of the colonies, over time and through their ingenuity, skills and strength, unlocked the key to surviving this harsh new land bounded by sea...they created a place to call home and gave birth to modern Australia.

The objects in this painting are symbolic of the sea and their importance to colonial life carefully gathered and placed within the composition. The Quandong seed acknowledges the traditional owners of the land and their displacement and endurance through this brutal time when people came across the ocean.

This is an original oil painting, handmade in Western Australia. Painted on canvas on a professionally made stretcher, varnished, framed in Tasmanian oak, which is included in the price, and ready to hang straight from unboxing. Carefully wrapped and sent via Australia Post in a sturdy made-to-order box. A certificate of Authenticity is supplied with each artwork.

The copyright remains the property of the artist, Mia Laing and may not be reproduced by any means upon sale.
